Mentorships

A pen looking like a hot air balloon with the words create, inspiration, imagine, idea.
I learnt a lot from your mentorship scheme and feedback. It has landed me an agent with book three so this is a very warm thank you from me to you!

I work one-on-one with a small number of writers at any one time. It’s a very personal process, which changes with the needs and goals of each writer, but in each mentorship I guide the mentee in developing their craft over a sustained period of time.

A writing mentorship involves working to deadline, challenging writing habits, and being prepared to discuss one’s work. Writers develop skills, confidence, and the best possible draft of their manuscript.

My writing handbook, '52 Dates for Writers', was inspired by some of the exercises I have created for my mentees and can give you an idea of my approach, and if you take a look at the recommendations page, you'll see what some of my past mentees have said about the process.

If you’d like sustained support with your writing, including bespoke exercises and plenty of individual feedback, my popular writing mentorships run for 3, 6 or 9 months.

A period of mentorship or book coaching is available right from the early stages of planning your book and one-off literary mentoring sessions / consultations are also available.

As your writing coach and mentor, I would assess the areas of craft it would be helpful for you to develop and set writing exercises and assignments to support you in doing so, alongside my feedback.

My writing mentorships often include some comparative text work, detailed outline work on the structure of your book and feedback on agreed sections of your draft as you write. Deadlines are negotiated between us, giving you the accountability of a partner in your writing or publishing project.

There’s plenty of time to ask any questions about the craft of writing or the publishing industry. We can also work together to plan a long-term writing and publishing strategy for you as an author. Discussing your work can help give you the confidence a published author needs, and also the protected time to really experiment with and interrogate your writing practice. It’s an exhilarating and absorbing experience, fully flexible and responsive to your needs as an author.

If you'd like to discuss writing mentorships, please drop me an email on contact@clairewingfield.co.uk detailing your project, aims and writing experience. It would also help to see a short sample of your writing.
