Bude Writing Retreat 2018
with Author and Editor Claire Wingfield
Come along to 3 linked workshops to inspire your writing and learn about book publishing.
Workshop 1 – Tues 10th July, 10am-1.30pm, Bude Castle
What Makes a Book Sell – and how can we transfer this to our own writing and delight our readers?
Looking at a number of successfully published books, we will workshop individual pitches / book ideas.
We will set goals for the week and discuss obstacles to our writing.
Workshop 2 Weds 111h July, 10am-1.30pm, Bude Castle
Learning from Comparative Texts
Each member of the workshop will nominate a book for the group to read in advance of the workshop; we will all make notes on the opening 5 chapters to discuss structure, style and the elements of a successful read.
There will be time in this workshop for writers to consider how to transfer what they have learnt to their writing projects, and discuss this.
A week to write!
Workshop 3 Weds 18th July, 10am-1.30pm, Bude Castle
Practical Editing Workshop
A chance to focus line-by-line on your writing. Writers can submit up to 3 chapters of their work; from this I will highlight areas for editorial consideration. Participants will sharpen editorial skills and a section of each piece of writing will be edited.
We will discuss writing and publishing strategy of each writer moving forwards. (I will try to schedule these as short 1-to-1 talks, depending on participant numbers.)
During the 3 sessions there will also be the opportunity to take part in some writing exercises to create fresh material.
