Introduction

I’m Claire Wingfield, and I’m a freelance writer, editor, and literary consultant. I also work as a scout for London-based literary agency MBA Literary Agents.

I have a strong background in publishing and regularly freelance for a number of publishers. I also help other organisations create a strong and consistent written identity through a number of editorial services. These range from editing, proof-reading, and copywriting, to an editorial consultancy package which includes editing / proof-reading existing content as necessary; creating a house-style for online and print copy; showing in-house staff how to put it to good use; and answering any questions of grammar or style.

As a literary scout, I welcome submissions of high-quality literary and women’s fiction. I may also be interested in other areas of fiction or non-fiction – for which an enquiry should be sent before any of the manuscript is submitted. Please be aware that feedback can only be given where there is an interest in working further with the author.

Authors who would like a full report on their manuscript and in-depth advice on how to take it to the next level, as well as professional advice on how to approach publishers / progress their writing can apply to the literary consultancy service. These manuscripts would automatically be considered in my scouting work, and an overview of any books I have provided consultancy for would be included in my quarterly report to the agency.
